Kevin Murphy will present on MJ Murphy, exploring his writings, influence, and unique voice in Irish literature. This evening promises to deepen appreciation for Murphy’s lesser-known but significant contributions.

The literary series at Benburb Priory will turn its attention to MJ Murphy in an evening that promises to illuminate the work of this distinctive Irish writer.

Kevin Murphy will lead the talk, guiding audiences through the writings and influence of MJ Murphy, whose unique voice in Irish literature has long deserved greater recognition. The presentation will highlight not only Murphy’s creative output but also his lasting contribution to Ireland’s literary heritage, offering a fresh appreciation for a figure often overlooked in mainstream accounts.

This event is expected to provide new perspectives on Murphy’s place within the wider story of Irish writing, celebrating his role in enriching the nation’s cultural landscape.

About the speaker

Kevin Murphy, founder director of Ti Chulainn Cultural Centre in Mullaghbawn, South Armagh, is a former English and Politics teacher with over sixty years of historical and literary research experience. He has lectured extensively and co-authored two books, Kick Any Stone (2003) and A Famine Link (2006).

Kevin’s recent works include studies on South Armagh’s history, famine, revolution, and notable figures such as Peter Donnelly. He is currently researching Donnelly further and preparing a history of Carricknagavna townland. Murphy has also lectured widely on folklorist Michael J. Murphy and the writings of James Joyce.
