Shane O’Neill and His Castle at Benburb
August 30, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

The O’Neill Country Historical Society are pleased to announce its first talk of the Post-Covid pandemic period. This will take place on Tuesday 30th August at 8.00 pm in the Bruce Room at Benburb Priory. The subject will be “Shane O’Neill and his Castle at Benburb”. It will be given by local historian, James Kane.
A new full-sized wood carving of Shane, based on the Harry Morrow postcard image produced by F.J. Bigger c.1911, has been erected in the courtyard outside the Bruce room at Benburb Priory.
The O’Neill Country Historical Society will have an official unveiling of this image at 7.30 pm. This will then be a permanent fixture and will emphasise Benburb’s connection with Shane, termed ‘ the Proud’ (an Diomais ), who was undoubtedly one of the most famous Irishmen in history.
We look forward to seeing you there. A small £3 entry is payable on the evening.
